Amazon Exclusives and the Power of Marketplaces

Amazon, Ebay, and Etsy are giant ecommerce power machines that create a capitalistic marketplace enhancing competition and providing the consumer with an array of goods at excellent prices, but what if you are on the other side of the coin.

Current first world consumer mentality demands cheap goods and cheap prices often at the expense of quality and customer service.  Although large marketplaces like Amazon and Ebay push businesses to deliver their products faster, and ensure the provision of good customer service through the use of reviews, small businesses are left with slimmer margins as price wars wage.

Using large marketplaces to showcase your product or brand is a necessity in today’s crowded ecommerce world.  They provide excellent SEO and great exposure for small and medium enterprises (SME’s), but the fact is that Startups and small North American businesses can suffer when they are left to compete on price with Asian factories who can produce and sell goods less expensively in the same marketplace.

The good news is, Amazon has launched a new product called Amazon Exclusives.  Their plan is to put new and unique businesses front and centre, provided these businesses sell exclusively through Amazon, their own websites, and in physical retail stores.  In other words, Amazon is cutting their competition, and yours, while giving the customer a wider choice of unique niche products, that otherwise may be more difficult to find.

The new Amazon store will feature innovative new products many of which are seen on ABC’s Shark Tank.  “Our mission on behalf of customers is to make Amazon the destination for brands and innovators to launch and sell their products, providing our customers early access to new products,” said Peter Faricy, VP of Amazon Marketplace. “We understand that helping brands gain exposure for their award-winning new products is beneficial to customers that desire to be the first to have the hot new item.”
